Disk Defragmenter:

The fragmentation occurs when adding and removing files from your computer. When you delete a file, Windows marks the sector, such as is available, and used the next time you create the file. If the file gets larger and continuous space is not available, Windows uses to store the new part of the file available to other sectors. How will you continue to use your computer, the files may still be more fragmented. When you save a new file, if there is no contiguous space sufficient Windows writes a new file by using the sectors that are not together – the file is fragmented right from the start.

Fragmentation slows disk access and, subsequently, your computing efficiency, because Windows has to spend more time to find the parts of each file. Additional blocks of the file is divided into, the slower Windows accesses the file because the file system must be moving across the disk to find the pieces of the file.

Fortunately, Windows comes with a program that moves the contents of the files on your hard disk so that each file is stored as a contiguous string of sectors – Disk Defragmenter. Run the Disk Defragmenter tool, if you plan to not using your computer for some time, because it may take an hour or so and it is necessary to reboot, if you change all the files.

Run the Disk Defragmenter

By using these steps, run the Disk Defragmenter.

Choose Start | All programs | Accessories | System Tools | Defragmenting a disk, or disk space in the Explorer window, right-click and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box for the disk, click the Tools tab, and then click Defragment now. Select the unit you want to defragment, right-click the drive from the list that appears.

Delete temporary files using Disk Cleanup:

Disk Cleanup is a program that you can delete any temporary files from your hard disk. Some programs create temporary files and then delete the files when they are through with them. If the program or the Windows unexpectedly quits (or “falls”), may be left on the temporary files on your hard disk. Deleting these files from time to time is not a good idea, just because they take up space, but also because their presence might confuse programs that created them. Be sure to return to winxpfix.com more as it is.

Note: you may recommend disk cleanup deletes files that have not yet been used in months, regardless of the type look at file names, which recommends deleting to make sure that it includes important documents, which have not been used in months, but want to keep.

Here’s how to start Disk Cleanup:

1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. The disk cleanup program starts and asks for the disk that you want to clean. Select a disk drive, and then click OK. The disk cleanup window tells you how much disk space you can get by deleting temporary files right now. Of course, this may involve the temporary files that are currently in use!

2. click the field for each temporary file type that you want to delete the disk cleanup. For more information about temporary file type, click the description; the program displays an explanation of the files are, and what folder disk cleanup to delete them from the

3. for additional options, click the other options tab. Three buttons provide other ways to free up space on the disk, including the removal of the Windows components that you are using, you uninstall programs and reduce the amount of space used by system restore. Click the appropriate button, try one of these methods.

4. If you want to display the names of the files will be deleted (in a separate window Explorer), select the type of files that you want to delete, and then click view files.

5. If you want to start deleting files, click OK. The Program will ask if you are sure that you want to delete files. Click the Yes button.

Note: run the Windows scheduled tasks to run Disk Cleanup on a regular basis. If you use to schedule a program to run the scheduled task, you must run the disk cleanup once after following the steps in the previous section, to be able to select the file types that you want to delete.

When you run the disk cleanup utility, it is necessary to include in the list of files to remove temporary files. Windows stores most of the temporary files in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\user Name\local Settings\Temp, although a few may end up in the C:\Windows\Temp folder (if you have installed Windows to a different folder in the Temp folder, where Windows is installed). Windows can become confused, if this folder contains lots of temporary files that should be deleted automatically, but they weren’t. Be sure to return to winxpfix.com more as it is.
